grip tips:
To balance the FP-32 mixer with your recording deck:
o Attach the FP-32 outputs to your record deck and activate the deck's
record mode so that it is monitoring its inputs.
o Turn all FP-32 volume controls to zero.
o Pull the FP-32 "input 1" knob out to activate the 1kHz tone.
o Turn up the FP-32 master volume so the VU meters read "0db"
o Adjust the recording deck's input levels so the 1kHz tone reads at a
desired level.
It is recommended that 0dB on the FP-32 be matched to -12dB
or
-20dB on digital recording decks since "0dB" usually references a digital
deck's clipping point.
When recording dialogue, always have the low-cut filters
turned on. This removes low bass rumble that isn't used by the human
voice anyway.
Consider keeping the limiter switch on to prevent overload,
especially when recording on a digital deck.
straight talk:
The FP-32 can provide 48-volt phantom power to those mics requiring it.
However, battery drain is accelerated for such use. Be extra aware of
degradation of microphone sensitivity and increased noise floor when recording with a
phantom-powered mic. The Audio-technica 4041 short-shotgun mic, in
particular, is sensitive to voltage drops. Consider changing batteries
every thirty minutes when using this mic.
